Hi, we’re Sarah and Jake!
We didn’t grow up traveling. Neither of us had passports or childhood trips abroad, and our first time overseas was together, a year after we got married. But that one experience sparked something neither of us expected — not just a love for travel, but a complete shift in how we think about life, time, and what’s worth prioritizing.
That trip showed us how big the world really is — not just in size, but in how people live. Being immersed in places so different from what we knew opened our eyes to new cultures, lifestyles, beliefs, values, languages, foods, and animals. It made us realize that the way we were living wasn’t the default; it was simply one of many ways to move through life. That perspective made us more curious, more connected, and more open to the world around us.
Travel stopped being something we assumed we’d do “someday” and became a real, present-day goal. We wanted to keep chasing that feeling of discovery. The moment you step into a new landscape, hear a new language, or experience a culture different from your own. We wanted to build a life that made room for more of those moments.
Before long, we had lists, screenshots, and sticky notes filled with things we wanted to see and do all over the world. Eventually, we realized we needed to get organized, so we turned it all into one physical list: a bucket list. But writing it down in a single list lit an even bigger fire in us. Planning trips became intentional, and checking things off became an addiction.
We began planning our travels around the experiences on that list. Specific places, meaningful moments, and once-in-a-lifetime encounters. Creating thoughtful, detailed itineraries allowed us to spend our time and energy on what mattered most. Each trip felt intentional and deeply rewarding.
Writing things down, from our dreams to our itineraries, is what’s fueling the trajectory of our lives now. And our desire to experience the world fully, combined with our love for intentional travel, is what led us to create Antisocial Tourist.
We started this blog to encourage others to do the same: to write things down, to stop saving their dreams for “one day,” and to realize that life can be lived in many different ways. Sometimes all it takes is one trip, one moment, or one shift in perspective to change everything. And the sooner that moment happens, the more time you have to live a life filled with curiosity, connection, and unforgettable experiences.
